FSK honors polyurethane developer Dr. Thomas Mack with rare award

(Frankfurt/Stuttgart/Brussels) FSK – With the FSK Gold Medal of Honour, the Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes Association bid farewell to its long-standing member of the Board of Management, Dr. Thomas Mack, who retired. Dr. Thomas Mack had been working in polyurethane development since 1979 after completing his studies and working as a scientist at university. For the last 16 years, he was head of development for polyurethane systems at Rühl Puromer GmbH in Friedrichsdorf. In this function, he developed polyurethane systems for new applications such as dummies based on a PUR elastomer, PUR RIM systems for a functional workplace or for various design objects, together with polyurethane processors and customers. Whether polyurethane crystal clear, whether fiber-reinforced, whether for soft or hard applications (such as equipment housing components), all polyurethane properties and types were part of the daily development work in Dr. Thomas Mack’s team at Rühl Puromer. In the FSK, the doctor of chemistry was particularly involved in topics related to the Innovation Award, university contacts, and in questions of chemicals law and environmental regulations in polyurethane processing. In this function, the polyurethane development chemist was a member of the FSK Board of Management for eight years. “You have well deserved your retirement and have made a lot of progress in the polyurethane industry,” says Albrecht Manderscheid, Chairman of the Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes Association FSK e.V., explaining the association’s rare award to Dr. Thomas Mack. “Particularly noteworthy is your polyurethane knowledge, which you have acquired in 35 years of PUR practice and have also contributed to the association’s work”.
