5th International Specialist Conference in Düsseldorf

Dr.-Ing. Otto Fuchs, born on 8.07.1914 in Trossens/Oldenburg, completed his studies of chemistry at the University of Kiel in 1939 with a doctorate and then worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Kiel. After an interruption of this activity due to the war, he resumed it after returning from captivity in 1946. In 1950 he joined the science laboratory of Dynamit Nobel AG in Troisdorf as a chemist, where he worked on various development projects, including the development of foam plastics.

The achievement of the award is based on the development of a manufacturing process for open-pore, high-frequency weldable soft PVC foam with low density by gassing PVC pastes in a high-pressure process with air-carbon dioxide mixtures and gelatinizing ‘with high-frequency energy after relaxation.
