Professor Dr. Carl B. Meyer, born on May 5, 1934 in Zurich, Switzerland, studied and received his doctorate as a chemist at the University of his home town. After working at Mc Gill University, Montreal/Canada, 1960/61, he worked as a scientist at the Lawrence Berkely Laboratory of the University of California until his appointment to the University of Washington, Seattle/ USA. He is a permanent advisor to the US Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In 1970/71 and 1977/78 he was a visiting professor at the University of Würzburg and the Technical University of Berlin. Meyer is a Fellow of the American Institue of Chemistry and a member of several professional associations. He is the author of numerous technical papers and the author of several books. He has also been an initiator of scientific events and a lecturer there.

The achievement of the award-winner is that, starting from UF resins, he published for the first time a detailed overview of UF foam plastics in their entirety.
