From 1937 to 1939 he studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Darmstadt. His studies were initially interrupted when he was called up for military service. As a sabbatical student, he was able to complete his studies of technical physics in 1943 as a graduate engineer. From 1946 to 1948, he worked at the Institute of Technical Physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt under Professor Dr. R. Vieweg on his dissertation, which earned him a doctorate in 1950. After completing his dissertation, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Physics at the University of Mainz. In 1950 he took over the establishment and management of a multi metal laboratory at Klöckner-Moeller GmbH in Bonn. In 1964 he was appointed head of the South German Plastics Center in Würzburg. Since 1968 he has been a lecturer at the University of Stuttgart in the Department of Process Engineering for Tooling Technology in Plastics Processing. In 1971 he was appointed honorary professor.
