Professor Dr.-Ing. Wilbrand Woebcken was born on 3 June 1917 in Sillenstede and attended the Humanistic Grammar School in Jever. From 1937 to 1939 he studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Darmstadt. His studies were initially interrupted when he was called up for military service. As a sabbatical student, he was able to complete his studies of technical physics in 1943 as a graduate engineer. From 1946 to 1948, he worked at the Institute of Technical Physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt under Professor Dr. R. Vieweg on his dissertation, which earned him a doctorate in 1950. After completing his dissertation, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Physics at the University of Mainz. In 1950 he took over the establishment and management of a multi metal laboratory at Klöckner-Moeller GmbH in Bonn. In 1964 he was appointed head of the South German Plastics Center in Würzburg. Since 1968 he has been a lecturer at the University of Stuttgart in the Department of Process Engineering for Tooling Technology in Plastics Processing. In 1971 he was appointed honorary professor. Since 1969, he has been a country representative at the annual “Donauländer-Gespräch” of the plastics institutes in Western and Eastern Europe. In 1977, he was awarded the honorary coin of the Association of German Engineers for his many years of work in the VDI.

The achievements of the award-winner consist in the fact that he has been able to communicate new developments and knowledge through research work in the field of structural foam plastics, through the testing of hard and soft foam plastics and through many special courses and conferences on foam plastics.

Woebcken, has rendered outstanding services to the F.S.K. through his participation in the “International Symposium on Foamed Plastics”.
